While travelling Europe, I was often asked how Americans could have elected someone like Trump. I had no idea, but the thought of his re-election made many very nervous about prospects for peace
This is an important piece, Peter. Indeed, the horror of Tuesday’s US election results should not paralyze us. It is also of great concern that traditionally progressive political parties, including the Democratic Party in the US, will continue to sell out their base and drift to the right hoping to lure voters for next time around. Next challenge for Canadians is to keep « The Weapon » out of the hands of PP (short for poo-poo head, no doubt).
QUOTE: The authoritarians want us to retreat. They build their power by fabricating constant crises that exhaust us and drive us into despair and isolation. Hannah Arendt wrote that loneliness, or “the experience of not belonging to the world at all,” is “what prepares men for totalitarian domination in the non-totalitarian world.” Trump will keep creating crises, to exhaust us and drive us to retreat. Liu’s recommendation: “Rest. Breathe. Grieve. And then reengage, to fight for the lives of all who are scared and threatened by this regime.”
Racism. Like, we've told you. Whats interesting, with their deportation of illegal and naturalized citizens, they are truly going to see the beast the black community, the ONLY COMMUNITY, who has been able to stand up to them and get them to be a least minimally humane. But yeah, why dont you understand racism codified in its laws, apartheid, and current systems?
The reasons are much more complex than that and can’t be summarized so easily. Sure there are racists and misogynists who support Trump, but 74 million of them?
It is. This is the defining struggle of america since its exception - progress by sharing power, or stagmation and recidivism by choosing yt supremacy (or delusion we like to call it). When integrating pools in the south, these people filled them with cement. They would rather their own kids dont get to swim than share a pool with black people. Now, all these think pieces are unnecessary, as only yts outside this country cant understand - this is VERY clear to usa yts, even supporters themselves. They didnt hide it at all, nor are they. The world is seeing the delusion this lack of wanting to share power will bring. Now, as far as the black american community, we are going to sit back and prepare as we always do (already started, we know the enemy, have been the only ones successful in getting this beast to back up and change), but i hope usa and the world has the stomach for whats about to be unleashed. We know. We tried our best to shield the world, but the world that didnt listen, must feel. Good luck is all we have to say, we know ths savagness. We honestly were trying to shield everyone from it, but arrogance won out. Thats all i have to say about it though, its more of the worlds problem than ours at this point. Its above us now, but lord have mercy on the souls around the world (and yes, im including the world. Lord have mercy on whats about to be unleashed). This is a beast most people and countries dont have the courage, smarts, or ability to get to change course (our community does, thats why we tried ....).
But, we can agree to disagree. Its above us (the blk community now) and we do pray for the world as we know whats coming but we are sitting this one out.
