When I wrote my first Sixty-something Solo a year ago this week, two people wrote me out of the blue to pledge financial support if I decided to go the paid-subscription route.
I was in shock. It hadn’t even occurred to me to monetize the blog. Substack is the site that hosts some of my favourite writers, so it seemed a good place to start. I didn’t think about money. I just wanted a forum to share my travel adventures because a) I love writing, b) I love sharing and storytelling and c) I knew that having a blog that I had to file each week would enrich my own experience by pushing me to see and do things I otherwise wouldn’t have seen or done, so that I could share the stories with you.
Even though I’m still writing about my travels, I’m back in Montréal now. The anniversary has forced me to think about about what to do with subscription renewals, because I had never expected to continue beyond my travel year. I’m still writing because I still have stories to te…
